Most people who live in an apartment building or work in an office building take for granted what happens to their garbage after it’s been put in the chute or the waste bin. All that waste accumulates in large industrial bins that can hold as much as 8,000 lbs. of garbage. Those bins have to be moved to be emptied into waste disposal trucks. That’s why the right casters are so critical.
Casters and wheels being used on industrial waste bins have to meet an array of requirements. Waste bins are often kept outside, but in some cases, bins are kept indoors and must be wheeled up driveways and outside for disposal. Bins are often manoeuvred in tight spaces and are frequently rolled on concrete, asphalt, gravel, or other demanding surfaces. When bins are moved outside residential buildings, minimizing noise is very important. The liquid portion of waste often leaks out of the bin and onto the casters. The latest trend in bin design is larger capacities within a smaller footprint, allowing more garbage to be stored in less space.
All of that requires casters and wheels that can withstand temperature and the elements while being resistant to moisture and chemicals. Capacity is clearly a key factor, as is a caster’s overall height. Outstanding manoeuvrability is essential along with quiet operation.
These casters and wheels are ideal for industrial waste bins.
For use on waste bins, our customers most often choose our 7100 Series caster with a capacity of 2,850 lbs. or the 7200 Series with a capacity of 3,250 lbs. Their strength is a result of a unique design where the kingpin and the top plate are cast together as one piece formed from AISI 1045 forged steel. They are also manufactured with two double-deep grooved raceways providing both movability and the ability to withstand both lateral and vertical force. These casters come with an extra wide 2-1/2” tread width, allowing for additional capacity without additional diameter. That’s especially important with smaller footprints where additional diameters could potentially lead to bins tipping over.
Some customers prefer our kingpinless Twister or Tornado casters with capacities of 1,500 lbs. and 2,000 lbs. respectively. The kingpinless design adds strength, stability and longevity while being maintenance free.
Our RollX™ wheels are a clear choice. They will not swell or chip because they are resistant to temperature, moisture and chemicals – and are recyclable. EnviroThane™ wheels are also a good choice when noise reduction is a requirement.
